Justin was my Gameplay Engineering Producer at Lightspeed LA. Working with him was an absolute pleasure — he had a relaxed yet disciplined demeanor, was always approachable and open to feedback, and was instrumental in promoting and enabling the productivity of the Engineering Team. His greatest strengths include his ability to keep conversations and meetings constructive and focused, managing and co-ordinating tasks and scheduling across a plethora of disciplines, and possessing the emotional intelligence to ensure effective and clear communication between teams.

Justin was a great addition to the camera team, he helped plan out our full year along with individual milestones. He was great as a facilitator of communication across disciplines and would help to identify blockers and keep the machine moving. He was great with Jira and reduced time being spent planning and communicating so that each discipline could concentrate on their work.

He is a very positive mindset producer that keeps a team on track but also energetic. The project I was on had members from several groups, all with different leads and producers, yet he was able to keep people engaged on the tasks at hand, push things forward without being heavy handed, and overall just made the project enjoyable. It is often the case that a producer won't completely understand technical details — Justin had a good sense for this and knowing which needed follow up and which were simple enough to leave to the individual dev. Hiring Justin would be a decision you can be happy with.

While working with Justin, he consistently followed up after standup meetings between engineering and design teams, to clarify technical callouts and determine task priorities within a given sprint. This was helpful to ensure that the tasks assigned in JIRA properly reflected the work that needed to be done to move the project forward. Justin was dedicated to improving his own efficiency and that of our cross-disciplinary teams.

If given a task, he'll do everything he can to accomplish it in the timeframe discussed along with providing updates on how things are progressing. Justin also has a great willingness to learn different techniques, methods, and strategies without judgement. If it helps to move progress forward and in the right direction, Justin will take feedback and implement it swiftly which is a good skillset to have.

After some time, it was clear Justin was actively helping the team in an impactful way, utilizing thoughtful foresight gained from understanding the work required in each department involved a feature's pipeline. So if you find yourself fortunate to be working with him, know that you have someone that has cut their teeth at a AAA studio enough to be helpful right away, but still eager to learn from others and genuinely consider other perspectives.

Passion is a word that describes Justin. Justin joined the team and was in charge of the live-ops. Justin is a passionate gamer and producer who will dedicate entirely for both game's and team's success. Justin's professional attitude and work ethic brings the team's discipline to another level. His positive energy creates momentum to the team and the project. I trusted Justin 100%.

Justin stood out to me as soon as I met him, when he was a volunteer at IndieCade, a game festival for which I organize speakers. He joined the online practice group I run, HomeTeam GameDev, when we were facing new challenges in starting a whole new chapter. He immediately excelled as both a leader and collaborator. He pitched and lead an original VR game, did level and writing for another member's isometric RPG, modeled and did visual effects for another member's mech project, then organized and led several more games back-to-back. Each project he led is in a different genre, each with unique technical, design, and coordination challenges.

I started working with Justin on a project he was leading, Mobius Inversion. The direction that he provided during the project allowed for both a clear vision of what he was looking for, as well as allowing artistic freedom for the 3D models I was creating. The feedback I received from him during private discussion and weekly group updates were informational, clear, and encouraging. He is a pleasure to work with, I look forward to him joining each project that I am a part of.

Justin is an avid producer and game designer. He thoroughly documents all aspects of game design, coordinating with every team member to ensure an excellent product. He adds a unique voice to all of his creative works and isn't afraid to express that voice. He constantly provides morale boosting support to every member of staff.

Justin has been an extraordinary friend, game designer, and mentor to me. He absolutely loves game design, and I've seen how hard he works within a team. Justin cares about each individual on the team and regularly schedules one-to-one meet-ups to just chat with them.

I met Justin during a class project and ended up continuing to work together after. A dedicated designer is the least I can say. Whenever an issue arose with the project he found a way to make it work. A focused and dedicated person in whatever he puts his mind to. His drive alone among his skills is why I would definitely work with him again.

About

I produce across engineering, design and live-ops.

I came up in live-ops on global mobile games — Project Cars Go and Summoners War — where I learned how to keep a live game healthy at scale, coordinating across studios in three countries.

From there I moved into AAA production at LightSpeed LA on Last Sentinel, as a mission, combat, and engineering producer running coordination across multiple cross-disciplinary teams — mission, engineering, narrative, cinematics, camera, audio, performance, and mission design.

Today I'm Senior Producer on Before the Flood at Kingdom Forge, and I build my own games at Seed Alchemy Studios.

I've also built a charity-led studio of 50+ volunteers at Games for Love, published on Android, iOS and Steam, and gave a GDC talk about it.
